Trent GreenWhen the Miami Dolphins and the Kansas City Chiefs complete the long awaited trade involving Trent Green and draft picks it will serve as the end of offensive balance for coach Herm Edwards and the Chiefs who will officially become one of the most one dimensional teams in the NFL. Green has been a solid starter for years and a pro-bowler on two different occasions. Damon Huard, who was signed as the starter, is a good backup quarterback at best. To those who say that Huard “got it done” last year when Green was out with a concussion, I would say that Kansas City no longer has one of the best offensive lines in the AFC now that 12 time pro-bowler Will Shields has retired. When not handing the ball to Larry Johnson, Huard will be running for his life.

The bottom line is, with Trent Green the Chiefs are a playoff contender and with Damon Huard they will be 9-7 at best and watching the playoffs from home as the Chargers run away with the division again. If, on the other hand, Damon Huard is simply a stop gap measure until Brodie Croyle is ready to take the reins, wouldn’t you rather have Croyle learn from a starter like Green than a backup like Huard?

This trade does, however, make perfect sense for the Miami Dolphins as it allows Trent Green to be re-united with head coach Cam Cameron, who was Green’s QB coach when he broke into the league, and current Dolphins QB coach Terry Shea, who is Green’s best friend. It would also allow for the Dolphins to put an end to the misery that is Daunte Culpepper’s knee re-hab.
