Redskins LogoThe Washington Redskins enter next weekend’s NFL draft with only five picks. They have a first (sixth overall), a fifth, 2 sixths, and a seventh round selection. Not exactly team building ammunition. I heard it said once that champions are built in rounds 2 through 4. Ouch!!! The Redskins seem to be targeting DT and DE which would make sense, since they ranked dead last in the NFC last year in total defense and second to last in rushing defense. In the upcoming first annual ALL NFL TALK Mock Draft, I have the Redskins taking Amobi Okoye, DT from Louisville. Okoye has as much upside as anyone in this year’s draft, but a 20 year old interior lineman isn’t going to make the difference in them competing with the Eagles, Cowboys, and Giants in the NFC East.Amobi Okoye

In my opinion, the Redskins must endeavor to find a team to trade with or they are going to get very little value with their late round picks. The New Orleans Saints 7th round rookie star of last year, Marques Colston, is the exception not the rule. The Redskins could move down as many as 5 spots and still get a good defender while acquiring another pick or two as the Falcons, Dolphins, 49ers, and Bills all have multiple middle round picks and appear to be targeting players who may not be available when they make their selection.Dan Snyder

With all of that said, Redskins owner Daniel Snyder doesn’t exactly have the best reputation for making good player personnel decisions and I don’t know why I would expect him to here, so look for him to take a defensive player with the sixth overall pick and remain in the NFC East cellar for the foreseeable future.
