Posted by markj as Are You Kidding Me?, Draft, Player News and Opinion
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid on Tuesday met with quarterback Donovan McNabb at the Eagles training facility. It was reported this meeting was about the 2nd round selection Saturday in the NFL Draft of Kevin Kolb, the talented quarterback from the University of Houston. Apparently, the Eagles wanted to clear the air about spending such a high draft pick on a QB. Are you kidding me??
Is McNabb’s psyche really this fragile? Is it possible that T.O. was right about McNabb’s leadership abilities? Let us not forget, during the whole T.O. fiasco in Philly the locker room was divided.
If the team has to put the mind of their starting quarterback at ease over a draft pick then there are issues. Donovan, could it be the fact that you haven’t finished the last two seasons due to injury? How about the loss of back up quarterback Jeff Garcia to free agency and all the Eagles have to replace him is A.J. Feeley and Kelly Holcomb, neither of whom has shown that they can play at the level of an NFC East Champion. Could it also be the fact that you’ll be 31 years old this November? My guess is “D” …ALL OF THE ABOVE!!
In my opinion, Donovan McNabb should worry more about staying healthy and leading his team in the locker room and on the field rather than who’s behind him on the depth chart.
Oh, and for all the conspiracy theorists that think I’m being unfair, if this had been a meeting about the strategic importance of this pick, the meeting would have taken place before the draft.

1I would never admit that T.O. was right… even if he was.

2McNabb has been extremely overated since day one.
He quit on the Eagles in the Super Bowl. Do you think Michael Jordan would have quit because he was tired and sick. Not a chance.

3I don’t think he quit during the super bowl. I think he was just outplayed by a much much much better QB. As usual the Eagles find a way to F up another season. I’m canceling my tickets and burning all of my eagles magazine subscriptions!
DAMN YOU ANY REID!!

4Jess, I agree about T.O. It killed me to put that in there.

5Randy and Jimbo,
I don’t know if he quit or not, but he plays poorly in some big spots. I just can’t beleive a guy that has that much pull within an organization is that insecure. Thanks for the comments.

6Hey, TO needed a leader to lock him down and buck up. McNabb couldn’t do it and instead leaned on others (media, coaches) to do it for him. He’s had two seasons now to sit on the sideline and watch someone else wrap up his season. Maybe he should be concerned. It may finally give him the motivation to quit sucking down the Campbell’s Chunky soup and really become “The Man”.

7Willie McK, I couldn’t agree more. It kinda feels like what’s going on with Michael Vick in Atlanta (on the field). He needs to win something big sooner rather than later. I wonder how much McNabb had to do with the fact the Eagles didn’t even consider bringing Garcia back.
