TheismannJoe Theismann was a guest on ESPN Radio’s Mike and Mike in the Morning Show earlier this week and had this to say about Brady Quinn at the draft:

“The only thing I was disappointed in with the young man, and I hold his agents responsible for this, was to me, when you walk out on stage in front of millions and millions of people, that’s a job interview. You don’t go to a job interview chewing gum. And I felt like he could have presented himself in a much more professional manner. It looked like his tie was the first time he ever tried to tie one. It looked like his hair, he had just walked out of a shower, and he stands there, relieved as all get-out, chewing gum. And to me, that’s not a professional image. And maybe I’m reading into it, but when it comes to drafts, when it comes to analyzing players, I think you have to look at everything.”

QuinnjerseyMy initial reaction to these comments was Are You Kidding Me? Brady Quinn had just sat for 5+ hours waiting to have his name called when his people had been telling him all along he was a top 3 pick. Not to mention he’d probably been doing the math and figured this scenario had cost him in the neighborhood of $17 Million and the cameras kept showing him and his girlfriend squirming with every passing pick. I mean, give the poor guy a break!! Then I saw the tape again…, over and over and over and I thought to myself, am I actually feeling sorry for this guy?

When you watch him walk across that stage putting the Browns hat on, he has a look like “it may have taken longer than I had hoped, but I got what I wanted all along and the rest of you can #*%^ off”. At the time, I didn’t really notice him chewing the gum, but upon further review, he is smacking that gum like a cheap hooker from Bayonne… and then there’s the suit. I admit, Brady Quinn is a pretty good looking guy, but there are some people in this world that can wear a $3000 suit and still look like crap and he appears to be one of them.

Quinn faceAll of that aside, I think that Theismann’s comments are largely over the top, but I remember an interview during the week leading up to the draft where Quinn told a reporter that he should be the #1 overall pick, because there were”no weaknesses” in his game. …Really!!! I’ll wait until he actually plays a game in the NFL to respond to that, but Mr. Quinn, a little humility and a “clip on” tie would go a long way.

Do you think Joe Theismann is right about Brady Quinn?
