A friend of mine and I were just talking about the latest developments in the government’s case against Michael Vick. This led us to wonder if he could ever return to the NFL and how it could possibly play out. Just then my friend said “What if Vick went to a team as something other than a quarterback?”
My initial reaction was…, and keep in mind we’re assuming that his legal problems are behind him, …if a team used him in space, as a punt returner, or a kickoff returner, like the Saints do with Reggie Bush, it might work. Opposing defensive coordinators would have nightmares. You could line him up all over the field and there would always be the threat that he could throw the ball. Are you kidding me?? …WOW, What a weapon you could have!!
Then, reality set in.
It seems to be commonly thought, by the sportsworld’s talking heads, that there is a team somewhere that will sign Vick when this is all over. After all, we’ve pretty much forgiven Kobe Bryant for his legal issues, haven’t we?? I mean, Bryant has endorsements again and I don’t think there are nightly protests around the NBA against him, …so it could happen, right??
For some reason Kobe’s alledged crimes are not seen as being as horrible as Vick’s are. I’m guessing that no matter how long it took for Michael Vick to step back on a football field, or in what city he did it in, there will be protesters camped out at that teams training facility forever & ever.
I guess the question I’m posing is this: Is there a scenario, at all, that allows Michael Vick to, for lack of a better term, “sneak” back into the NFL?? I can’t think of one. Can you?? Let me know.
