GoodellI’d like to go on record as being a fan of Roger Goodell and the NFL’s personal conduct policy. I think it is an aggressive action brought to stem the tide of embarrassing situations that many players are getting themselves into. I believe that one of it’s purposes is to remind players that there are serious professional repercussions for a player’s personal actions. Just ask Pac-Man “I haven’t been charged with any crimes” Jones!! However with the latest round of player screw-ups, I can only conclude that it isn’t working.

This Lance Briggs thing is about as stupid an episode as I have ever experienced. Let’s recap. He wrecked his car at 3:00am and left the scene. He then “panicked” and reported the car stolen. Oh wait, it gets better. He then felt bad and called back to “un-report” his car stolen and took “responsibility” for his actions. Does this sound reasonable to anyone?? Well, in the end the police ticketed Briggs for leaving the scene of an accident, a midemeanor. Not bad for Briggs, all things considered. Given the facts, I’ll leave it to you to draw your conclusions about what Briggs may or may not have been doing when he crashed.Briggs

…,but what gets me is the Bear’s reaction to this. After what has been going on with Michael Vick lying and Pac-Man Jones lying and Tank Johnson torching them, head coach Lovie Smith actually got mad when a member of the media questioned him about the details of the accident. Are You Kidding Me?? Hey Lovie, the facts in this are STUPID AND THEY MAKE NO SENSE TO ANYONE WHO IS NOT A CHICAGO BEAR!!! Do the Bears really think we are all this stupid?? I guess they do, but I for one will be very interested to see what Mr. Goodell and the league’s “non-stupid” people think. I will be very disappointed if they, too, bury their head in Lake Michigan.
